In 1940, the U.S. military to M1911 officially named "Automatic Pistol, Caliber, 45, M1911", and the improved M1911A1 launched in 1924,  is named "Automatic Pistol, Caliber, 45, M1911A1", during the Vietnam war M1911A1 and changed its name to "Pistol, Caliber. 45, Automatic, M1911A1", serving in the whole period the United States produced about  two million seven hundred thousand the M1911 and M1911A1 authorized production (not including Allies), probably is one of the most historically accumulated production Automatic Pistol. M1911 series is John Browning short trip back to barrel principle  to design the famous product,  its various characteristics also affects other pistol launched in 20th century.
