Highly Enjoyable Event... Despite Obvious Flaws!!!

*by C*** on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 May 2012*

The World Wrestling Federation's 'No Way Out 2002' PPV was all the hype for many people in early 2002, and the reason for this: the return of the 'nWo'.This is EXACTLY how our event begins here: a very big mistake from the WWF script writers. The nWo make their immediate return as WWF employees right at the beginning of the event; I felt that this could have been retained til further into the night. One crucial moment here is when 'Hollywood' Hulk Hogan takes the microphone to speak... a sign of things to come, perhaps?? Watch this, and you shall grasp my meaning. Overall, a very bad opening on the part of the Company; the show LITERALLY had not started yet!!The first match on the card is billed as the 'Tag Team Turmoil' match. All things considered, this is your basic Tag Team match, most of the Tag Team stars of the time are involved here. Everybody has their 'say' on each other here, so to speak. In my view, the right team wins here, with an emphatic finishing move!! Life would have been made much easier having this as the opener, as opposed to what's mentioned above. A great match, in my opinion.Next up is a singles match between Rob Van Dam and Goldust. The first thing to point out here is that Goldust is a 'Heel' (bad guy); I was shocked witnessing this, as I am so used to his 'Face' (good guy) gimmick. Either way, Van Dam starts brilliantly here, with his signature high-flying style, great for the fans, in my view. It isn't long, though, as Goldust counters this with a beat-down. Also, check out the hilarious commentary from Jim Ross (JR) and Jerry 'The King' Lawlor in this match; it is vintage J.R. and King!! All in all, the right man wins this bout, taking the storyline into account.Next is the second Tag Team match of the night as Tazz and Spike Dudley fight Test and Booker T. For the most part here, the Underdogs get man-handled. In the heel of the hunt, 'Crime Doesn't Pay - Literally!Next is the 'Brass Knuckles on a Pole' match with Edge and William Regal. Despite Edge taking the fight to Regal in the early-going, he makes too many attempts to grasp the knuckles. All things considered, the ending of this match is sudden, with some sneaky antics...Next is The Undertaker vs. The Rock, fuelled by a rivalry The Rock clearly started, in my view. The Undertaker's gimmick here - 'The American Badass' - was it so much about respect?? If so, I cannot recall this aspect to his character!! Anyhow, The Rock explodes on Taker from the word 'go!'. As the match settles, The Undertaker dominates The Rock for some time, using all of his signature moves. As The Rock tries to battle back, he is only countered expertly by the veteran. The Rock is only able to fight Taker with his fists, really, as a result. Overall, witness a fantastic ending to this bout... with two, unexpected interferences.Triple H then squares off against Kurt Angle; Stephanie McMahon acts as the Special Guest Referee. Of course, Angle takes it to 'The Game' early on, with help from Stephanie, no doubt. Now, I must point out, in retrospect, that Kurt Angle matches are great to watch; they are just full of well-executed, technical moves. Moreover, in this match, Angle really 'gives it' to Triple H, and does so on his own, too, making him worthy of great praise. Witness some silly activity on the part of referees in this bout! Objectively, the wrong man wins, but the winner executes an emphatic finishing move!!The Main Event of the night features Stone Cold Steve Austin against the 'Undisputed Champion' Chris Jericho. This match starts off very well as it is very fast-paced. Fans will note the actions of Stone Cold in the early-going of this match: he is clearly out to please the fans and deliver a good time (witnessing this really takes one back to the good old days of the WWF; the modern 'PG' WWE era lacks that these days, you feel!). Anyway, witness a serious beat-down, Stone Cold-style, to 'Y2J'. Now, Chris Jericho does get into it, but he is ultimately overshadowed by Austin, you feel! All in all, the ending of this bout is very predictable, as some 'Unused Substitutes' make their mark!! Classic moment ensured!!In conclusion, 'No Way Out 2002' is a highly enjoyable event to witness, depite its obvious flaws. The major flaw being the use of the nWo, of course. Anyway, I think that this is well-worth the money and, in turn, well worth the watch. In fact, I recommend any serious wrestling fan to get their hands on this now, as it is becoming extremely rare.Buy it...

*by B***8 on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 September 2014*

This a great PPV to bridge the gap between the rumble and mania as it has the debut of the NWO a great 3 main caliber lineup with a good tag team turmoil match which turned out to be a preview of what was to come at Wrestlemania and the also the consuls ion of the great intercontinental title rivalry between William Regal and Edge.
