The stand alone base has a stronger magnet and will hold your cable if mounted vertically. The strip magnet base is better when set on top of counter/table or desk.CONS: The magnet strip too weak to hold heavier/thicker USB cables. That's disappointing. Why wouldn't you simply get stronger magnets if you're going to create this product... would have been flawless. I'd pay more if that was the case.Seller is aware of issue, they issue you rubber cable clips for thicker heavier cables. Hope they improve the product, and create claps for thicker/heavier cables, like monitor/hdmi cables. Maybe I'll create them myself. =)Buy if you have normal/light USB cables that need clamping to desk... the individual base is convenient aswell. ### ⭐ Disapointed.
