Contrary to popular belief, the "sharpening steel" included is a honing device - which is meant to realign the blade from being crooked or bent for an even cut. You'll still need a sharpening solution to maintain your blades. No blades will stay sharp forever, in fact, they'll always dull in a couple months if you don't have a way to properly sharpen them. The carving fork is, surprisingly, insanely helpful. I cook chicken breast every week in bulk and usually use silicone tongs and I have to be careful not to nick them. Usually tongs are a BBQ reserved tool, but holy crud these things are handy when cutting meat accurately and quickly! Out ofnthe box it was an 8 inch razor, super sharp and after 9 months they have not lost there edge one bit.
