Our pool is a little further than 150 feet from the house, can I leave it outdoos?** A: The monitor is a plug in; it has no batteries. Therefore, it cannot stay outside in the rain as it is not waterproof. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you about the distance as our pool is about 25 feet from the monitor. What I suggest is that you plug your monitor in an extension cord to bring it closer to the pool. The system does work. We test it each time before our Grandson comes over to make sure it still works. The sound it makes not only alarms the parents and grand-parents but the Neighbors too. Good luck. **Q: Does this unit need to be in line of sight of the water? I need it to work on my large pond out back and it's far from the house so also needs range.** A: This alarm does not require direct line of sight, although the more walls and obstacles in between the band and the base station will diminish the range. It has about a 150ft line of sight wireless range, but you will want to minimize the amount of obstacles to ensure it can work at an optimum level. **Q: Does it work in salt water pools?** A: Yes it will work but just may shorten the transmission distance. For succesful set up with a chloride salt pool, the Base Station may have to be less than 50 ft. 15 m. from the pool. Above a 4,000 ppm salt concentration, the Base Station may have to be pool side. **Q: How do you know when the bracelet batteries are dead & what's the battery life? Can you turn the bracelet off when not in use?** A: The standard battery life for the wristbands is about 3 years with regular use and testing daily. You can tell when the batteries are running low when you put the base in the test mode and the band will not trigger an alarm. This means the batteries are low and the turtle band should not be used any longer. We wish we had found this before our dog drowned in our Koi Pond.. We put it on our new dog and my other dog. We attached the turtles alarms onto their dogs collars. The alarm unit is in our living room. We tested it in our Koi Pond and our swimming pool and Jacuzzi. At all times the alarm has gone off. The alarm is very loud and can be heard anywhere in the house. We now can relax more knowing that if one of the dogs falls into any water the alarm will sound off. This is a far better solution than and older gadget that we tried which if the water moved it would go off. Every time the pool cleaner came on it went off. Also, you had to buy an unit for each source of water which would be to expensive. The Turtle Alarm works in all water sources so you need only one unit and buy the collars for each dog. The only negative thing, and this is very minor, the alarm continues unit the collar turtle is dry. You just unplug the unit and dry the collar turtle. We gladly do this to make our dogs safer. The first time was when no one was home, but we came home to the alarm going off (the bracelets were in the pocket of the base). The second time was in the middle of the night and the whole family woke up (again, the bracelets were in the pocket of the base unit). The third time was when my twin nephews were visiting and wearing the bracelets and I was watching them play on our trampoline--no where near any water or any damp surfaces.The alarm did go off correctly when I tested the bracelets by intentionally getting them wet, so they work. But these aren't a viable alarm system if they trigger without cause--setting up a completely unsafe "boy who cried wolf" scenario.I like the idea of this alarm, but it isn't a viable option if it sounds when there is no danger.*****Updated one hour after original review****I hadn't taken the bracelets off my nephews after the third false alarm I mentioned above. The boys were running around my house and I found one of the bracelets on the floor of the hallway. THE TWO YEAR OLD HAD GOTTEN THE BRACELET OFF.
