I read the first two in the series, Out of My Mind and Out of My Heart. My granddaughter told me I had to read Out of My Mind when she was in the 5th grade. So I did. I found it so compelling, I recommended it to my adult book club. After the initial flack of recommending a 'kid's book', everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, thought the book was amazing. In case you're not sure, I LOVE THESE BOOKS! My grandson read it and wrote me a three page book report i didn't believe he was capable of. He was already a compassionate child, but the book gave him a new perspective and he was genuinely affected by the main character, a young girl named Melody who has cerebral palsy, and what she went through. All that to say, no matter your age, read Out of My Mind. Have your kids read it, or read it to them. Have a family book club discussion. As my granddaughter told me, "just read it.
