I have a backyard on the north side of my house that was bare dirt when we moved in. I seeded it first last fall. It came in slow, but really took off this spring. This year, I seeded more areas in the second half of march, and am still seeding it now in early June. I comes in faster this year. I am sure the soil temperature has something to do with that. I plant it one day, two days later it is coming up. The technique that works for me is first to water the soil, let it set for a half hour or so, and then work it vigorously with a Garden Weasel. I scatter the seed, then go over it lightly with the garden weasel again to cover the seeds. Finally, I water it again, soaking it thoroughly but not to the point of run-off. I water the grass daily and that process is working for me.
