The material is an extra-thick polycarbonate that can take the weight of normal use with out developing creases or unsightly "drag" marks. It's also textured for extra sureness of grip, but also easy to keep clean. The bottom is cleated with just the right sized little points that grip the carpet without ripping the pile. We were afraid the mat might be too fragile to last for than a year or two, but of course, all such fears were put to rest when it arrived.Best of all, it flairs a bit, allowing the smaller end to be placed under the desk while providing sufficient protection of the rug below. It's one of those common sense things that, oddly enough, is hard to find amongst similar Amazon listings for the same product. We were putting this over a custom-designed rug that cost us more than we would care to admit, so having the right amount of coverage while also having exposure of the carpet's design was a goal this product met quite nicely. Unlike other "T" shaped mats, this one is sparing enough to allow the underlying floor to be appreciated rather than obscured, a difference that changes the look of the whole office.My packaging review for this purchase (not usually available to the public) takes Amazon LLC to task for actually forcing this material into a rolled cylinder that resulted in what may be a permanent misshaping of the product. However, we have found that hitting stubborn areas with a blow dryer helps relax the vinyl a bit, but it's slow-going. That's not the manufacturer's fault.I'm pleased to recommend this product and manufacturer. I got it flat after about a week and a space heater. In the summer any sunny place can do (garage mentioned in another review. However, the quality isn't very good. I'm average height and build, and after three months on 1/4" carpet, it's already cracked in several places. Normal wear and tear, no office Olympics. Too bad, I like the shape. I'll be looking for a thicker mat, or one made with more durable material soon. ### ⭐⭐ Not for corner desk. *by F***8 on Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2015* I couldn't find the measurements of the narrow end so it was wider than I wanted but I attempted to use it anyway. I used this at a desk where I did not roll straight in and out so mat tended to slide to one side and ride up the desk. The carpet was a tight nap so maybe the pile needed to be longer. In any event it cracked after 3 weeks of use so I moved it to another area with less use and not a corner unit. It is holding up but does not receive daily use.
