Nice image quality than other (I also tested sigma 70-300 of my friend and found this lens have good image quality) 4. Macro mode works well (180-300mm), not like actual micro lenses but better than normal Cons: 1. Too much chromatic aberration, which is disappointing. 2. Long distance images have low contras issue but, it is expected when you are using telephoto lens 3. You will surely miss "VR (Vibration reduction)" when shooting long distance object, But again you have to pay 20k more for that 4. Lens find it difficult to "auto-focus" on small object when compared to 18-55 kit lens. Plus auto focusing on 300mm is too much battery consuming 5. The glass has been working fine with me for more that 2 years. The bokeh is not really good, but this isn't a quality lens to begin with. I recommended that people either buy the Canon 55-250 or save up for an L quality (if you are a Canon shooter). Pros- 1. Feels like a pro lens, its heavy and when extended to the fullest, it is very long. 2. Picture quality is good enough. 3. I don't really feel the lack of VR or VC while using the lens from 70-200 but using in 300 might be a little shaky if you are not steady or using a slow shutter speed. 4. Good for beginners. 5. Macro feature might come into handy at times. 6. Fantastic build quality. Cons- 1. Autofocus kind of suck at times but most of the time it works just fine. 2. Zoom ring is a little hard. 3. Shaky pictures at times even with steady hands. 4. Definately not good for low light. 5. Lacks silent autofoucs and if you are shooting video the video is goint to get really noisy due to the moving of the focus part. Conclusion- If you are not low on cash you might want to search for the nikon 70-300mm which has both VR and silent autofocus system which would be easier to use. When you start to spend time with the lens, you will realise that you would want to use manual focus instead of autofocus (as AF kind of sucks at times) which would improve you skills. Talking about the macro, it is not 1:1 macro so you probably wont be able to use it to take pictures of tiny insects because it is 1:2 magnification and by default this lens start macro from 180-300mm which is already far away. This lens can be used for portraits at times but pictures might be soft at f/5.6 and I would recommend to use it at f/8 or f/11 for sharper picture. Final decision- Buy this lens but in the end of the day you might be very happy or very upset if you set very high expectation as this lens costs around 10k and at this price 70-300 with AF is a lot they are offering.
