I can fit 4 pair of men's shoes across a row and 5 pair of my wifes (size 5) casual shoes across a row. There is a 5 1/2 inch gap between the rods that support the shoes. I like it because it fits "front to back" along the wall of our closet and still is low enough to be under the hanging men's shirts and jackets.
