From my perspective, in case anyone else is in the same boat I was when I bought the book, this does NOT focus on how to find interesting locations to dig. As someone definitely on the beginner end of the MD spectrum I was interested in how to research locations like one room school houses or old fairgrounds. I'm not looking to get rich but I am interested in detecting in areas that have some historical significance. This book pretty much focuses on exactly the opposite. Even going so far as to say not to detect at an old school house or the old 1850 house in your town because the real treasure won't be there. The focus here is on how to find that mason jar of silver coins the old miser buried or other caches or mother loads that are out there. It's about going to the library and looking through microfiche for news articles about rich parents that disowned their kids and then died suddenly (possibly leaving a buried treasure near their house). Or verifying legends of bank robberies where the loot was never found, tracking the movements of the robbers to try and figure out where it might be. It's a very good description of techniques that will help you find the big score, and to be honest I used some of these techniques to find some more interesting places to hunt. Bottom line, I would say this is not for beginners though beginners would be able to get some use out of the information. This why I gave this book a four star rating. The author simply recommends reading some very hard to find old books, such as: -“United States Treasure Atlas Volume 1 Alabama-Alaska-Arizona-Arkansas 1st Edition” by Thomas Terry (Author) -“The Treasure Hunter's Manual #6” Paperback – 1977 by Karl Von Mueller (Author) -“Treasure Hunter's Manual #7 Paperback” – June, 1974 by Karl Von Mueller (Author) -“The WPA Guide to 1930s Alabama First Edition” by Harvey H. Jackson III (Editor) and also available at Amazon.com. However they can be quite hard to get.
