These shoes have a bit of a stiff sole but I prefer that in my shoes. I think these shoes are going to be fine for my walks when it is raining. They are well made with no lumps or bumps or stray threads. They are a fraction of the price of high end hiking/walking shoes. These are great and I have had no problems with fit or quality. They are comfortable and I am happy that I was able to purchase them at a sale price. If you want more arch support, you need to add inserts. I use them as an everyday shoe, not hiking trails. Disclaimer: For some reason, they seem to squeak a little when walking.
