Over all, the ease of use and high security features make it an excellent choice for a secure combination padlock. Review: Great lock, Extremely sturdy but unfortunately I would not use it. The shackle or the top part of the lock was not exposed enough to fit into the locking mechanism of my storage unit. Had to purchase a different model but saved it for the moving pod where my household good were going to be transported to my new out of state location. Guess what? Again, the lock shackle did not fit the locking configuration for the pod. So I ended up with a very sturdy padlock that I was never able to use. Not the fault of the manufacturer as this is a great padlock. Just a word of caution that the limited space of the shackle might not conform with what you are trying to secure. Review: I got this lock on desertcart warehouse deals and it turned out that someone changed default combination before it got to me, so it wouldn't open. Because of that, I tried several common attacks to see if it would open, including feeling for any binding in the wheels/shackle, a bypass attack as well as a typical brute force (try each combination) individually. I'm no expert at all when it comes to these but I have been successful with each of these in other locks I own as I like to keep my professional security skills well-rounded ;-) Bypass attack (the easiest way to open combination locks) didn't work because the number wheels are well-fitted and tolerances are great. I also couldn't really make enough progress with guessing or brute force methods because you need to press down on the shackle and then pull to see if the locking pawls retract vs applying pressure directly on the locking mechanism. Ultimately, a good keyed lock like Abus 20/70 or 20/80 is much more secure but this will definitely thwart unskilled attacks. The lock itself is also heavy duty with a beefy shroud so physical attacks will be also be difficult without the use of power tools. Thank you.** A: It has a protected shackle. The 190CS allows only single 14mm chainlink closure to protect against bolt cutters. **Q: The lock arrived without the key necessary to set the combination. Is there some other way to make it usable?** A: I don't think there is. The key is necessary to both set the combination the first time you use it and to reset it if you ever need or want to. I would contact the vendor and ask them to sent you the key. The lock itself fantastic! Another option for you might be to take the lock in to a locksmith and see if they can forge you a key but, really, it will be easier to have the vendor send you a key or return the lock you have in exchange for one that has the key. Hope this helps. **Q: Will this fit 2 links of a 1/2" security chain?** A: Hi, I just measured one of mine. The shackle is (+-) 7/16. The inside of the armor shield at the shackle is 3/4". Though the inside curve of the shackle is just about 1". So, it SHOULD barely fit (2) 1/2" links, BUT, you may have to grind a bit of each side of the chain so both links can fit on without a lot of jamming. You really do not want to jam the lock shut. What I do to fit chains on shackles where there is just a tad of space needed, I hold the link and LIGHTLY grind the link's side on the side of my "fine " grinding wheel. Several quick passes are better then 1 heavy pass with sparks flying, the links turning red, and using their temper.
