I followed the very easy-to-read directions and was very pleased with the results. I’ve had an electric manicure set for years and used it to file down any rough areas. It really saved a lot of work, so I recommend you invest in one if you intend to do your own nails instead of spending a fortune at the salon. I enjoyed doing it myself so much that I doubt that I’ll return to the salon! This kit makes 30+/- sets of nails ($1,400 savings for me!). A few things I learned: (1) use an electric manicure tool with “fine” grit paper. (2) use a THIN coat of the Gel Dip & Top liquid or else you’ll have a glob of dip powder on your. It’s better to do more “dippings” of thin coats than one thick coat. (3) I wiped the mouth of the Gel Dip & Liquid bottle as soon as I was finished with it so the lid wouldn’t stick. Some customers complained about the bottle breaking when they forced it open. I tested the bottle about an hour after I finished my nails two weeks ago, and again today. It opens easily. Yea! (4) use the plastic clips (cheap!) to hold the acetone-soaked cotton on your “old” nail coating to remove it. I could move around, drink my coffee and watch tv while soaking it off rather than sitting still for 20 minutes. (5) it’s imperative that you push back/clip your cuticles prior to even attempting to use this kit! And, try your darndest not to get any of the solution(s) on your cuticles. It will come off with some gentle scraping, but you’ll save time and sore cuticles if you avoid this upfront. I am having fun learning to do my own nails and I love doing it in the privacy and safety of my own home. I couldn’t wait! Lol!The process is fairly simple, especially if you watch Tony’s videos many times before hand like I did. He makes it look easy! I think it will be once I have more practice. I chose to do the French mani with a pink overtone and an accent ring finger nail of white with silver glitter (sort of an ombré look).That’s probably too complicated for a first timer but I went for it! The two issues I had were that the gel is a bit thick so when i dipped it looked a little wrinkled in some nails. If I did the coat of gel very thin it dried too quickly and didn’t pick up the powder well. The other issue was the smile line, clearly user error, so I’ve ordered a little dipping tray to help with that in the future.One small thing I was disappointed about was the depth of the little powder containers. I couldn’t dip some fingers well without spilling powder. I think pouring some out first into the cap or something would help a bit.Overall I’m satisfied with the product and I give it 5 stars for allowing me to do this at home instead of paying $50 every 5 weeks (yes I went that long with SNS and yes it lasted but with lots of growth obviously! lol)!The true test, and I will update this review once I’ve done several manis, will be how long it lasts and how durable with no cracking. I have 3 children, I cook daily and wash dishes by hand, and work full time in an office typing most of the day.
