Review: A must-have for movie nights - If you’re serious about your home theater experience, the Sony SSCSE Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers are about to become your new favorite upgrade. These little speakers pack a serious punch, adding a whole new dimension to your movie nights that you didn’t know you were missing. Dolby Atmos is all about immersing you in sound that moves around you, and the SSCSE speakers do just that. Whether it’s raindrops falling from above or a helicopter zooming past, the audio experience is so immersive you’ll feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. These speakers perfectly complement a 5.1.2 setup, and when paired with the full range of CS speakers from Sony—like the SSCS3 towers, SSCS8 center channel, and SACS9 subwoofer—you’re in for a cinematic treat. One of the best things about these speakers is how easy they are to integrate into your existing setup. No need to fuss with complicated mounting—just place them on top of your floor-standing or bookshelf speakers, and you’re good to go. They’re a perfect fit on top of both the Sony SSCS3 Floor Standing Speakers and SSCS5 Bookshelf Speakers, so setup is a breeze. But if you prefer, they’re also angled just right for wall mounting, doubling as excellent surround speakers. The sound quality is pure Sony—clear, powerful, and uncompromising. With a 4” mica-reinforced cellular woofer, these speakers deliver deep, rich sound that enhances everything from action-packed blockbusters to quiet, dialogue-driven dramas. And with 100W of maximum input power, they’ve got more than enough muscle to fill your room with high-quality audio. In the box, you’ll find everything you need to get started, including mounting brackets and screws, so you can set them up right out of the box. If you love movies and want to experience sound the way it’s meant to be heard, the Sony SSCSE Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers are a no-brainer. They bring the cinema right into your living room, and once you’ve tried them, there’s no going back.
Review: It can be amazing depending on your setup - Update: I tweaked my receiver (yamaha rxv683) settings and changed the default audio settings from "front presence speakers" to "Atmos Enabled Speakers" in an upfiring position on top of my main fronts and upped the atmos speakers dB to +2 db louder each than their respective front speakers after using the yamaha ypao automated speaker calibration mic and now have very nice full home theater sound. You'll want to download the dolby atmos demos from the dolby website and play them for calibration, you should hear the feather wizzing around you and slightly over above your right side. The atmos speakers work in conjunction with the rest of your speakers so you don't want the atmos speakers too loud otherwise you'll hear too much coming from the front and it will drown out the other speakers which will ruin the illusion of the sound bubble. It needs to be loud enough but balanced with the other speakers that sound passes through evenly through space according to your ears. The difference is that the experience is like being in a sound bubble with objects that can be tracked in space through sound. It's subtle in some ways but not subtle. It feels like I'm in the environment of the movie. That's what it should sound like when the set up is correct. Without atmos you only get peripheral sound effects like you get an idea of the transition of objects in space from front to back, left to right, but no depth to the details of the location of the sound. With atmos and proper tweaking I am now getting that depth. It will vary greatly depending on your setup and situation. Everyone will have varying experiences with atmos and it may take some tweaking to get the most out of it. Original review: Bought it at less than 100 when it was on sale. Its a great addition to my 5.1 setup now making it 5.1.2. Overall I do hear a subtle difference in that when compared to traditional surround sound it also subtley increases the soundstage to be more enveloping from above. Definitely not very noticeable but it makes a difference to me. These speakers aren't going to wow you in that you will now suddenly be able to pin point where an object is flying above you, you probably won't get that from just having them sit on your front tower speakers. I wish I could say these did that but it doesn't, but they do what they're supposed to do which is increase soundstage as a lesser substitute for in-celing speakers for a reasonable price and without the hassle. I use this with Atmos enabled movies, most of the time I also use the upmix to atmos even with other non-atmos media. I'm using a yamaha rx-v683 receiver. These speakers sit on top of my two front tower speakers. I would say that the only thing i don't like about them is the lack of banana plug support. It connects with bare wire using clips like the cheaper systems that do not expect large copper wires. I haven't tested the audio range with these, but without in-ceiling speakers I don't expect full range sound to bounce from the ceiling. Bass and lower mid ranges still come from the other speakers mainly, and the atmos speakers only add atmospheric backgrounds that are usually more apparent when the sounds are higher frequency and very loud. I also wish it came with adjustable angled feet so I could adjust the angle of the speakers facing the ceiling.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: This price is for a pair or are sold individually?**
A: These questions/answers appear under multiple items, so the answers are inconsistent. The bookshelf speakers are paired, but the floorstanding speakers and the center channel speakers are sold individually.

**Q: What are the size(diameter) of tweeters / midranges / subwoofers ? And do these have passive crossovers inside?**
A: Dear Kim,There is a passive crossover in the speaker. 3/4" Super tweeter, 1" Tweeter, and 5 1/4" Woofer.Eric C

**Q: How is the bass to use without subwoofer?**
A: I just spent a couple days measuring these speakers with REW (Room EQ Wizard) with and without the SACS9 subwoofer. In my room, these speakers play below 50hz (although there is a lot of ringing below 200hz). I found the best crossover setting on the back of the subwoofer was at the minimum setting (50hz) and appropriate volume for the room (8-9 o'clock position for my room). Anything higher than that and I'm getting large peaks at the crossover point. Purchase these speakers when they are on sale (I got mine for $88 and the sub for $99) and you will not be disappointed.

**Q: I recently purchased the SSCS8 Center and 2 SACS9 subs, Which Sony speakers would be recommended for the Front L&R Surround L&R Back L&R?**
A: Depending on how big of a room your set up will be in. If it's a small room, you can use the Sony SS-B1000 5-1/4-inch Bookshelf Speakers for the front left and right; the side surround left and right; and the rear surround left and right. For a big room, I would recommend the Sony SS-B3000 Bookshelf Speakers for the Front Left and right and then use the Sony SS-B1000 Bookshelf Speakers for the rest of the surrounds. This is the set up that I have in my room and it's 15'x15'. It sounds amazing...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best budget starter atmos
*by K***E on March 3, 2021*

For the money these are a great starter product for atmos. The mount to the wall quite easily, and hook up fine. Not much really to say about their physical nature than that. It's a single full range woofer, instead of a traditional two way design with tweeter and woofer. This means it takes up a smaller footprint than other atmos speakers on the market. As for sound, I truly don't notice them most of the time. I have a sony str dn1080, klipsch rp-8000f L and R, and Definitive technology promonitor 1000 RL/RR and a procenter 2000. When upscale music they simply make the sound field more live and room filling with filler as the rest are far louder (even with +5.0 level on both heights). If you set the sound only to them for a test (usually for me to make sure they're even working) and they always are, and always playing about as clear and crisp as you would expect for the money. But that isn't the point of these. They specifically are to fill in sound effects and the like, not be listened to directly. They do this quite well actually. See most of the detail in the highs and lows will still come from the 5.1 part not the .2 or .4 heights. So in practice you don't miss them being better more detailed speakers necessarily. So who is this for? Well if I had to say I'd say, average Joe, or a mid 20s guy, or just an entry home theater builder. Someone who wants atmos but doesn't want to take money from the budget elsewhere. It's the perfect starting point, and if you get them on sale its a no brainer addition to an existing surround system to try atmos.
