## Description

From the Manufacturer Small but sturdy equatorial telescope mount that's perfect for traveling or campouts and capable of supporting small telescopes up to 7 lbs. Features a rugged metal EQ-1 equatorial mount head perched on a petite tabletop tripod with three thread-on legs. Makes a terrific portable tracking platform for wide-field astrophotography with a 35mm DSLR or SLR camera. Includes 4.8 lb. counterweight, dual slow-motion control cables for manual tracking, latitude adjustment, and threaded 1/4"-20 adapter. Height approximately 14", weighs 10 lbs., 5 oz.

Review: Sturdy tripod for solar telescope. - This is a very heavy duty table mount, that I use to support my Coronado Solar Telescope. This has great stability and both equatorial and declination fine adjustments using worm gears. Does not have a clock drive, but you may be able to attach one to the equatorial worm gear. The legs are removable, which I find useful for storage. Set up was very easy. Uses screw down mounting plate, which is very secure with the Coronado P.S.T.
Review: Difficult Polar Alignment - This mini GEM is well-built but only as good as the polar alignment one can achieve - which is very difficult. One has to get the telescope scope or camera exactly parallel with the Right Ascension axis - the black cylinder which has to be pointing at the North Celestial Pole, near Polaris. Then one can try to center the scope (and thus the polar axis) on Polaris (or, even better, the NCP). Unfortunately because of the shape of the polar cylinder it's almost impossible to align it with the scope. It would have been so simple to make the cylinder hollow, either to accept a polar scope or a laser. But it's a nice way to learn about GEMs and PA, and even with rough PA and a clock drive (available from Orion) it does track pretty well for short exposure/low focal length astrophotography.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How are you supposed to balance the telescope in declination if one side of the telescope is much heavier than the other?**
A: I use it with the Coronado Personal Solar Telescope, which screws the center of the scope into the tripod. The location does not seem adjustable, but it is reasonably well balanced with the eyepiece. The declination has slow motion control worm gear along with a friction type set screw. It should work well with an eye piece. For using a camera the mount could use a counter weight.

**Q: Will it work with Orion 10022 StarMax 90mm Mak-Cass Telescope?**
A: Sergio,I really don't know. I just use it to guide a Nikon D5000 DSLR Camera. I got a little disappointing with the product because the counterweight can't move freely with motor-drive attached. If you gonna use with it with motor-drive you should take a look at this counterweight http://www.amazon.com/Orion-7398-Counterweight-Min-EQ-Mounts/dp/B00ATY4A3KRegards,

**Q: Hi, are the slow motion controles works good for the coronado pst? and how long you can follow the sun with it? thanks!**
A: Hi, the answer is yes, The slow motion control are a little tight but they work very well. Once the mount is aligned I only have to handle one of them to follow the sun or any other object. My telescope is an 80 mm refractor (Orion) and the mount handled it very well, it is very stable. ...and Portable!!!

**Q: Is there an equally sturdy alt azimuth mount that is travel friendly?**
A: Well we do have a full size alt azimuth tripod that has telescopic legs, so you can fold it up to a fairly small size and it includes a convenient carrying case as well: https://www.amazon.com/Orion-Paragon-Plus-XHD-Tripod-Case/dp/B0000XMYP6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1469713000&sr=8-6&keywords=orion+paragon

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very nicely put together
*by L***. on November 10, 2017*

Very nicely put together, very compact. Unfortunately I put it on a scope that's too heavy for it. But I was able to mount it on a Camera tripod and use it fairly well.
