## Description

Garmin Forerunner 310XT GPS Multisport Watch - Grey.

Review: My watch died after 2 years - but Garmin have offered to replace it for free - As a triathlete this watch did everything I needed and it did it extremely well. Connected to HR sensor and bicycle cadence sensors without issues. Picked up GPS when running/swimming without issues. There's loads of useful functionality and the information you get back is amazing and really helps to track/adjust/improve training. It's a great size which forms a nice balance between a clear display with lots of info without being too big and bulky. A few of my favorite features which make this watch stand out: 1) it's fully waterproof. 2) It wirelessly connects to your comp and uploads all your data - no need to faff about with cables. 3) You can create a cycling route and easily upload it and then follow the on screen 'line'. It doesn't overlay the route on top of maps but it's clear where the turnings are. When you're regularly doing massive bike rides and don't want to keep stopping to check direction this is a great feature. I've even used it in this way for trekking in some remote areas in Europe after uploaded on the GPS waypoints in advance. After just over two years the watch has completely died. It won't turn on at all. I've looked on the internet and this is apparently a common problem. Just google '310xt won't turn on' and you'll see posts on multiple forums complaining about the issue. it's clearly a product fault and Garmin have offered to replace mine free of charge which is excellent customer service and all I could ask for. Hopefully the new one lasts.
Review: An economical Garmin GPS - I bought this to replace a Garmin 305 in which the battery was losing capacity (the cost of replacing the battery through Garmin was almost as much as this device). The 310 is slightly smaller than the 305 but very similar in layout. The GPS location system is much faster than on the 305, which could take a significant time to initialise. This device connects to the computer wirelessly using ANT+, and Garmin Express/Connect software: uploading does not seem as quick as on the 305 using Training Centre - but it is OK. I purchased the device without a HR monitor strap because I already had one: this had worked on the 305 and also a Dakota 20. The battery life on this device seems to be as claimed in the literature: I have not flattened the battery, but there seems to be plenty in reserve after a few hours. Charging is reasonably fast through the supplied USB cable. The Garmin 310 is a great training device, and encourages me to go out just to see how I am progressing. It is a worthwhile, economic first or replacement purchase

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am a petite woman with small wrists. Will this watch be too big and/or uncomfortable on a 5 or 6 inch wrist?**
A: I am also petite, 5 feet even and less than 100 pounds. While the watch is larger than a conventional one, I do not find it uncomfortable, and I have used it on runs as long as a marathon.

**Q: How well does this work with training on a treadmill when you have to been indoors and stationary?**
A: I use the foot pod when running on the treadmill. You will get speed, distance and cadence information that is in the same format as when using the GPS. The foot pod will also give you cadence when are using the GPS outdoors.

**Q: I purchased Garmin Forerunner 310XT Waterproof Running GPS. I need to buy a Heart rate monitor that is compatible. Tell me wich please.**
A: Garmin will tell you need the Garmin Premium Heart Rate Monitor (Soft Strap, ANT+ compatible). I am using the Garmin Heart-Rate Monitor (Regular Strap) I had from my deceased Forerunner 205 and it works fine. Some people complain the old monitor can hurt the side of the chest over the ribcage, so you might choose the new one. It seems to be a lot lighter too. The old one tends to slip when it is not tightly adjusted. Hope this helps.

**Q: what is a "non-standard" battery**
A: Evidently it has a battery that you can only have replaced by them...my previous garmins had the same thing. I have heard that people can replace it with a battery from an IPOD, takes some soldering in either case. I have not done that. Batteries on all of my garmins have lasted for years.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Good bargain
*by A***L on 28 October 2013*

I was expecting much more from this, since this is my first GPS running watch. The map isn't as accurate as l expected it to be. I was expecting something that would do a lot better than my GPS recording from MiCoach (iPhone 4). I am also not so sure that the distance it calculates is accurate as buildings in built up areas seem to affect its accuracy badly. On my second use, it froze after l stopped recording (thank God). I was able to restart it after visiting the forums. I was just grateful l hadnt spent 200 odd pounds on a device that was going to prove faulty and problematic so quickly into my use of it. Overall, happy with it as it allows me map and review where l have run and my pace. It is easy to use though. Quite happy about that. Its rating may improve as l run with it more and it gives less problems.
