Review: Powerful Auger that meets the demands - This is my first time using a man auger. A buddy used a similar model recently, and it did well, so I thought I'd try this one. I wanted one that was a little more powerful, and this one is. I've used bits up to 12" in diameter, which would work great for sand, soil with no rocks, etc. but NOT for rocky soil; it really throws me! And I'm a 200 lb very strong man. It will dig as quickly as long as there aren't rocks or roots that catch. It's definitely a good value for the money, and worth the extra money for more power and 3 bits. I really like the handle that juts out, it makes it easier to lay it down and pick it up. That handle is also nice because I can brace it on my left hip so when it catches a rock and goes to break my arms, it's met with resistance already and doesn't hurt my arms. The cord as others have mentioned is quite short, and if you don't tie to the extension cord, it unplugs while using it; ideally it could be a little longer. I'm quite tall, so not using an extension makes me really have to hunch over, and using it makes it hard to get it to grab and get started. I do wish there was an in between size extension, like a shorter one and longer one. The bits are a pretty good quality, but not the best either; the welds are here and there, not the whole way up, nor are the tips as high quality as others. The seller has responsive and good customer service, and stands behind their product. So far I've used it to plant a whole fruit tree orchard on my homestead, with no issues. I'm using the auger on like 200 ft of extension cord too, and it still has plenty of power. My recommendation is to buy this and you won't regret it. I still had to dig the dirt out with a shovel, but it was very easy, loose dirt then, and nice, straight walls. It will cut up roots up to ~1/8". Other than that, you still need to cut them with lopers etc. I like that it's electric, so don't have to deal with any of the hassle that comes with small gas engines and it "just works". It did trip my 15A circuit breaker several times, but that isn't a hassle for me. The selection of augers will come in handy for other projects. It would have cost the same to rent one for 3 days. The handles could use a redesign But it did its job with no problem, and the clutch works really well to keep from jerking you around.
