No the belly of the shirt should not stick out when using these shirt stays. That is the main objective - to keep the shirt nicely tucked in and avoid the "muffin top" appearance. However, if you don't wish the shirt to look "too flat" or "too tucked in" then you can simply loosen the vertical straps and thus they will not have as much tension and that will allow the shirt to appear less tight and have a bit more looseness. Conversely, if you want the shirt to appear more tight/flat then just tighten the adjustable vertical straps and they will tug more tightly on the shirt. So basically you can configure it either way. I didn’t have any issues using them. I am quite hairy and the elastic parts don’t rip or tear any hair off my legs which is a massive bonus.I had a perfectly tucked in shirt the whole day which is a massive relief in the office.
