Review: Significant upgrade over Tacoma JBL stock sub. Need a 3/4" spacer and let them break in. - 3 week update: 5 stars for the price. They've broken in and I put a proper fitting spacer behind them so they are fitted nice and tight with no gaps. The bass is coming out full and tight now. Stock amp is pushing them well enough. No clipping anymore at the volume I like. Now I gotta upgrade the front-door speakers. This is definitely a significant upgrade over the stock sub and I'm really enjoying my car audio again. I got one of those android head units that can push the system to it's max capabilities so I'm not sure if a stock head unit would sound as good, but I would guess it will be at least a modest upgrade with that as well. At the very least, this would be a cheap replacement on a blown sub. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I upgraded my 2012 Tacoma JBL stock system with a new head unit. I saw this cheap sub available at the same time and figured for the price why not? The first issue is this is actually a bit too deep for the stock JBL box and needs about a 3/4" spacer. Not a big deal, just know that before getting it. You will also need to drill in a different hole pattern into the JBL box, but with longer screws. I used some 2" drywall screws. Again, not a big deal especially if you know that going in. The new unit has way more control over bass and has a loud setting which really gives a much richer sound and pushes the bass and speakers a lot harder, but it's severely underpowered with the stock amp which only puts out 110w Max and 55 RMS. I have had to really play with the settings but can get a decent bass from it that doesn't clip very noticeably and at a good volume. I've come up with something I like, for now. If I can find an easy AMP solution I will add that next. It's possible that the factory head unit will not push it as hard and be a good upgrade from the stock sub. If you have a blown sub, this is a good cheap fix as well. For the price, it's worth it to upgrade the stock sub in a Toyota JBL system but don't expect a huge upgrade without more power. .
Review: put in 2009 hyundai santa fe limited with the infinity sound system - my 2009 hyundai santa fe has an infinity sound system with built in amp and 8 inch subwoofer. the factory sub blew and i was looking for a replacement. this had the same specs at a good price and i couldnt find a direct replacement short of buying the entire enclosure from hyundai for $700. nope! unfortunatly, because of the shape of the metal enclosure on this compared to the stock sub, this didnt fit in perfectly. the metal enclosure on this is maybe a half inch to an inch wider and wont fit into the enclosure perfectly. if you take the side panel out completely, which requires removing the back seats, you could dremmel out a bit of the plastic enclosure and get a better fit. the screw holes line up, its just the metal cage thats different. i didnt do all that. i only loosened the side panel and didnt really want to remove the seats to take it all the way out. so i used some foam insulation around the edge and screwed the sub in as far as it would go. the only issue with that is it puts the sub right up against the side panel and then you cant get the factory cover back on. but honestly, i dont care about that. it sounds great, in my opinion even better than before the stock sub blew. i got a universal cover, ended up using a 10 inch cover to fit over the factory mount, to protect the speaker and im good with the way it looks. 5 stars because it works and sounds great and none of the issues i had with installing it were due to the sub, it was just the way hyundai built the factory enclosure.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ put in 2009 hyundai santa fe limited with the infinity sound system

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quad 8 inch in sealed box - sounds great. Excellent value for the price point. Sounds great...
*by J***N on March 16, 2020*

I knocked off one star on the easy to install as you have to notch the hole slightly to allow for the binding posts to clear when dropping the subs in. I actually bought these some many months back, however, did not get around to building a box until this weekend. Now I wish I had sooner! My set up is a sealed box with the final wiring to 4 ohm and powered by a Kicker amp that pushes 300 watts at 4 ohm. The zip ties are for easy removal as I still am going to paint the box and then do the final wiring and reinstall the subs. I use a pair of speaker terminal posts rather than the recessed binding posts. I just prefer that on a sealed box. The SKAR 8 inch DVC 2 Ohm subs sound very good. I was running two 12 inch Kicker subs in a ported box. That came out and in went this weekend build. I played with little gain for about 2 1/2 hours then started adjusting it up some. They were ready to have more power, however, I want to let them break in proper as they say. Sound is good and they have a real nice punch when inside the passenger compartment. I have two SKAR 15 inch subs in a massive home theater ported box tuned to 22 hz. They do a great job and I am certain that these little 8 inch subs will not disappoint. After a week of commuting and playing music the box will come out for final prep and paint etc. I was smiling all the way in this morning. Give them a try and you just might be smiling too! GOD BLESS john
