You can put the entire bag in the freezer overnight to chill as it contains "built in gel packs", or just pop the included gel packs (2) in the freezer and use them. Or do both. This is a good size for a lunch. I used it for a short hiking trip and had a couple of oranges in it as well as 3 cans of drinks. It had plenty of room to spare and it kept everything chilled till we were ready for them. There are so many colors or patterns to choose from, something for everyone in the family. It has a buckle strap, also across the top an additional strap which is why I chose this particular bag. This is a very well made. I would recommend it to everyone.
