I had used standard cookie scoops in the past, and they fall apart. A regular tablespoon bends from the hardness of the ice cream. I figured at this point in my life, I wanted a quality ice cream scoop that will last as long as I do. I believe this one is it. I was initially concerned about the handle because I did not want it cracking or falling off, but this one appears very secure and durable. The scoop has a nice heft to it, which suggests that it is quality-made. I haven't decided if I am going to put it in the dishwasher. Probably not. The price was far less than I expected. UPDATE MONTHS LATER: I caved, and I have been putting it in the dishwasher.
