If you set the number to 4 for example, and only put in enough beans for 2 cups, it won't start. I mess with these a lot to get the right consistency I want. The only reason for 4 stars is the coarseness settings are somewhat negligible. I notice a difference between 1 and 4, but not much between 2 and 4 or 1 and 3 (if that makes sense). I wish there was a way to get a more coarse grind, and the grinds seem a bit too fine.Anyways, it's small and pretty. Doesn't take up much counterspace. It's reliable and fast.
