They are a fantastic resource to use giving children (and adults) a choice of how to deal with any feelings that they are struggling with. Sometimes, it is handy to just pick a card and do what it tells you to do as long as you are comfortable with that. If you're not, you pick another card. No need to remember anything at a time when your brain is occupied by surviving, just do what it says and notice how you start to be able to use your brain again, to breathe in deeper, and to cope. As a therapist who works with children, I love these cards. As a parent I love these cards just as much. They are a fantastic resource to use giving children (and adults) a choice of how to deal with any feelings that they are struggling with. Sometimes, it is handy to just pick a card and do what it tells you to do as long as you are comfortable with that. If you're not, you pick another card. No need to remember anything at a time when your brain is occupied by surviving, just do what it says and notice how you start to be able to use your brain again, to breathe in deeper, and to cope. I’m a primary school teacher and have a set of these cards both at home and at school. They are a great tool for refocusing and grounding when experiencing ‘big feelings’. The illustrations are great for younger users. My son (10) recently received some counselling sessions for anxiety and was familiar with many of the denouncing strategies as he was using these cards at home. They have made a huge difference!
