Be the driver or a be a passanger. Destiny doesn't just happen.

*by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2017*

I liked “Drive Your Destiny,” particularly because it challenged my assumptions of what it takes to create a life change. I experienced a similar, but much different, personal growth journey as the author. Reading this book, I relied on looking at life transformation with my lenses and narrowed down my perspective to my personal experience.Traditionally, I will start with some cons, but read 'pros' as well; this book is good, and if you want to achieve a lasting change in your life, this book may be a great tool for you.CONS1. Personal Development Fallacy.Scott Allan, like almost every author in this genre, assumes that his readers are capable of self-awareness and self-introspection at levels that are not achievable for 98% of the population.Common folks with common mindsets simply don't spend hours answering a series of insightful questions day after day. "Ask yourself..." is very good advice if you can steer your thinking processes with proficiency. Unfortunately, most of us cannot. The whole book is packed to the full with questions. If you want to use this book as a tool for driving your destiny, you need to stop reading every other page and answer a series of questions. Otherwise, you'll just skim over the most valuable pieces.2. Too Much Zeal.Maybe it's just me, but I felt like the author was a bit self-obsessed with his way of doing things. It is a good thing; you need to be passionate about your methods to preach them to the masses.Scott Allan doesn't say openly his way is the only way or that others who use different methods are morons (or naïve, or simply ineffective). His manners are too good for that. I simply read that between the lines and it was off-putting.3. Different Paths.Scott and I changed our lives. We both transformed from dissatisfied, average men into self-driven authors and coaches. But our experiences were quite different. Maybe that's why I felt he was preachy about his methods - because I used a different toolset? For example, the author prescribes a series of visualizations for a rapid and conscious transformation of beliefs. I changed my beliefs gradually over months and years. In the same fashion, goals elude me. Till this day I have great resistance against goal setting. They always brought me more frustrations than good. But for Scott Allan, they are one of the pillars of driving your destiny.I don't say the author is irrational or preach something which doesn't work. It simply didn't work well for me. But those tools have been in the personal development toolkit for ages, and many successful teachers taught them. For example, Jim Rohn, whom I deeply admire, was almost fanatical about goals.I only say that Scott's methods were different than mine, and that's why a lot of "Driving Your Destiny" didn't resonate with me personally. However, it's clear that they worked well for Scott Allan, and he is extremely skillful in making the best use of them.PROS1. Personal Experience.Someone who has been there and done that has four times more chances to teach you the same skill than someone who has only great theoretical knowledge about the subject. If you are a person who wants to drive your own destiny, you're better off learning from a practitioner like Scott Allan. He turned his life around, and that gives him enough credentials to write this book.2. Questions.I've read a lot of personal development books, and they are always full of questions. The author of "Drive Your Destiny" took it to another level. For me, that's a great advantage. I ask myself a question every morning and answer it on paper. This book will give me topics for many of my morning sessions.3. It All Makes Sense.I did relate very well to the second part of the book. Scott's advice about habits, building wealth and health was very close to my experience. They were also spot on. Very often, I give the exact same advice when I'm asked about those issues. Author's tips are clear, consistent, doable and effective. This is the essence of common sense. Also, those chapters convinced me that Scott Allan definitely knows what he is talking about. If he is so right about habits, health and wealth, his advice about beliefs and goals is probably as good. I may not understand it at gut level, but it doesn't change the fact that it all came from practice and provides relevant results. My Advice If You Are on the Fence1. "Drive Your Destiny" will be a great tool for those who can relate to its author. Do the due diligence and decide. Read his bio, visit his site. If you feel you can relate to Scott Allan, this book may become your textbook for a better life.2. Don't read it like a book. Read it like a textbook. Pause at every self-directed question and exercise prescribed by the author. If you haven't mastered mindfulness on a daily basis, there will be no better moment to do those things than while reading "Drive Your Destiny". The book is aimed to completely overhaul your whole life. It's not something to approach dismissively.Summary:I was torn between 4 and 5 stars. In the end, I decided that there is no sense in punishing the author for the fact that his journey was different than mine. This book let me look at personal development from a slightly different angle. In my eyes, that means it's a good book, the one that allowed me to have a peek into the author's mind.If you can feel like Scott Allan is ahead of you, if you can relate to his story, this book will be life-changing for you.

    Live the life you want

*by B***N on Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2017*

It's so easy in life to think that what you've got now is all you're ever going to get. Not true says Scott, the author of this new book. Whereas it can be all too easy to say you're a victim of circumstance, he says you are a product of the decisions make and the actions you take. That thinking can hurt at times, especially when you realise you can't blame anyone for where you're currently at in life, except yourself. As I was reading this book, I realised the subtle (and not so subtle) pressure society puts on you to live like many others do, even if you feel deep down that what you're doing isn't as meaningful as it could be.One quote I particularly liked was when he said that it's not a lack of resources that makes us fail, but rather a lack of vision. It's many things like this that had me questioning my own aspirations and thinking "what next?"Throughout this book, the author inspires and informs you with many true stories and tips on how to stop living the life you don't like, and start living the one you'll love.

A fresh perspective to my journey to success

*by R***O on Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2017*

“Drive Your Destiny” is an inspirational piece that will direct you to the ultimate question: What do I want to be? The book lays down what you probably already know but are not taking action. What is unique about the book is that it helps as a great reminder, it gives one examples from Allan’s personal experience as well as from well-known models of success. My best value takeaways from this book are: to rekindle those flames of your dreams, to use visualization to strengthen your conviction to succeed and take action and to push myself to build the habits required to reach to my destiny. I like most the visualization part that goes into details about the methods to use and it uses one's creativity that by itself helps build momentum in pushing oneself to get working on one's goals.Scott Allan gives a fresh perspective to my personal journey to success.
