### ⭐⭐⭐

Decent, but could have been so much more

If you haven't read Susan Stoker previously, then know that her books are pretty formulaic. For the most part there's insta-lust, the male protagonist is incredibly overly-protective, and the woman ends up kidnapped by a truly horrific bad guy. I enjoy her stories and some of them have been quite good, but most of them are fairly forgettable. They're good, quick reads and you know there will always be a happy ending and no doubt that the hero intensely wants the heroine. If we're comparing Susan Stoker to Lexi Blake, then it's like comparing a fast food hamburger to a freshly ground and grilled sirloin burger on a pretzel bun. Both will hit the spot, but you're only going to really remember one of them in the long run.I don't want to discourage you from reading this book because it was decent, but I was disappointed because it could have been much more. Stoker did a great job of setting up Sadie as a character in her previous book, "Justice for Milena (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 10)." She even gives a glimpse of Chase rescuing Sadie and their intense interaction with each other. So I had high hopes for some verbal spats between these two characters. I was also eager to see Stoker's alpha, Delta force men interact with Blake's sarcastic, Taggart crew. Ian Taggart does make a couple of brief appearances in this book, but this was the perfect opportunity for some amazing dialog between Ian Taggart and Ghost or Fletch. The potential friendly insults and banter could have been humorous and amazing and instead we got nothing. Letting that go, I had a bigger issue with Sadie only pushing back on Chase verbally for about 2 minutes. I got whiplash from how quickly he declared that she's his and he wants to put a ring on her hand as soon as she's safe, and Sadie just instantly melts into a pile of Chase-lusting goo. There just wasn't any build-up between these characters verbally. And the final disappointment was that while the bad guy unleashes a lot of damage, there was barely any interaction between the villain and Sadie or Chase. I expected some dialog and more clarification as to why he's so obsessed with getting Sadie when the obvious choice would be to head to Mexico and keep himself from being arrested.I know this review comes off as negative, but I do want to say that this was a quick, enjoyable read, albeit forgettable. I wouldn't recommend that you start with this book if you're new to Stoker's work (read "Rescuing Caroline," which is free). I just wanted more and as a huge fan of Lexi Blake's "Masters and Mercenaries" series, this wasn't up to her caliber and seemed like some golden opportunities for interactions between the two worlds were missed.

Great use of a crossover to garner my interest in a a new author and series!

When I heard Lexi Blake was inviting other authors to come and add stories to her Masters & Mercenaries series I was stoked, but also a little worried. I’d read a few of the authors, but most of them were new to me. What better way to discover a new favorite than in a world you already know and love?Rescuing Sadie is a novella, it’s marked as book 7.5 in Susan Stoker’s Delta Force series and could likely be considered book 10.5 in her Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series, and would fall around the same timeline as book 16 in Lexi Blake’s Masters & Mercenaries series. This book borrows characters from both worlds but is primarily set in the Delta Force world. It is not necessary to read any books from either series before this book, but I do feel like I would have had a better understanding of Sadie’s situation had I read Justice for Milena, which is a book from another of Ms. Stoker’s series. Rescuing Sadie is written in third-person semi-omniscient perspective, it alternatively follows Sadie and Chase’s thoughts. When I started Rescuing Sadie, I was a little lost; I felt like I’d been dropped in the middle of a scene. Once I got a grasp on what was going on the story was captivating and kept me engaged until the end. Sure, I would have loved to have had the complete backstory, but there was enough information given in Rescuing Sadie to satisfy my curiosity as far as Sadie and Chase were involved and also make me want to pick up Milena’s book to get the entire thing. Which is a good portion of the reason these types of crossovers exist.Rescuing Sadie felt a little insta-lovey for me, but a good portion of that is because of the history they already had. Otherwise, I felt like they had a great dynamic and were a fascinating couple. They’re both so headstrong, and their back and forth when they disagreed was wonderful. I appreciated how they didn’t back down but also considered one another’s opinions. My only wish for this novella would be that was a full-length novel, but that would be contrary to the very idea of this collection. I would have loved to have spent more time with Sadie and Chase. Because of the length of the book and the timeline, it only covers a single day; it felt a little rushed.I thought I had read Susan Stoker before but looking back through my books and my Goodreads tells me I haven’t. I felt very comfortable with her writing style, it felt much like Lexi Blake’s – which I absolutely love. This book gave me just enough insight to characters from her Delta Force series to want to check it out, as well as picking up Justice from Milena from her Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series, too.

Once again Susan Stoker gives you a fantastic book

If you haven't read Justice for Milena first I highly recommend doing so before diving into this book. Rescuing Sadie is a continuation of Sadie Jennings and Chase Jackson story who just happens to be Rayne's little brother. Now that Milena is safe after Jeremiah Johnson has died Chase Jackson asks her uncles to be her bodyguard and takes Sadie to Ft. Hood so that he can keep her safe and far away from Jonathan who escapes the clutches of the Feds. But it will take Fletch, Chase, Ghost and if course little Annie helping to keep Sadie away from the pedophile. Can they also take their new found attraction for each other from being ruined by Jonathan? Since she's Sean and Ian Taggert's niece they will lend any and all help when an unexpected attack threatens the entire team.Sadie Jennings has just helped Milena take down the men of Brexa school but since Jonathon is on the run her uncles and now Chase want her protected so they move into Fletch's apartment until he can be caught. She also has feeling for Chase and hopes that when this is all over they might have a love like her Uncle Seth. When a unexpected night time attack occurs it will take all hands on deck to save everyone from a fire even Annie plays a role worthy of a soldier.
