When I missed the end, I wound up with a dip in the middle and it jammed up. Practiced with hot house cukes to get the hang of it. PERFECT result, holding the back end of cuke, getting a good grip with tool on front end then moving L hand back onto the front while finishing the cut.I need presentation, as in perfect for a few dishes. I can't imagine I'll be this slow making a salad but am overjoyed to get a good result with proper technique and no jamming. So many others have gotten donated. I found it easiest and safest to hold the peeled carrot on a cutting board and running this cutter along the carrot rather than holding the carrot in my hand. The way this tool works is the cutter has sharp vertical blades that create the julienne vertical cuts, then it runs the carrot over a regular horizontal serrated peeling blade to cut the strips from the carrot. Both take place in a single pass. The added vertical blades meand this gadget needs to be used with more attention than a regular vegetable peeler. But then you want this for its special julienning feature, not its basic peeling fiction, right?I really liked the julienne cutter. It also comes with a regular peeling blade which is also serrated. The serrated peeler, I'm sure is to keep the blade sharp longer, but I much prefer a regular straight, flat peeler to the serrated peeler which leaves a rougher surface behind than a smooth bladed peeler.Bottom line? Buy this for the quick, easy work it makes for creating julienne stripes.
