The metal bit with the logo gets screwed to that plastic adapter plate from the handlebar mount. They should really include an assembly picture or something in the package. I almost returned this because I'd forgotten assembly was required and like the unhappy reviewers thought it wasn't going to work. Fortunately I looked at the listing again and saw the assembly pictures. Review: Perfect. Much better than the plastic ones. - I was using a cheap plastic adapter until last week when it broke off and sent my Cateye Volt 700 onto the chip sealed asphalt at about 35 mph. At the time I didn't realize my light was gone and didn't see it until I got home when I went to turn it off. By a wild stroke of luck I was able to get the light back when and while a little battered and scraped up it still works fine. So no more plastic. This alloy mount should last a long time and I don't have to worry about it breaking. It fit perfectly on my Volt 700. For those saying it doesn't fit, I believe Cateye changed the mounts at some point.
