It is a thin material but I pull it up over my ears and hold in place with ear muffs. The extended neck covering helps to keep my neck warm as I have very short hair. I am a small person with a small face so it is difficult to keep in place, for me, without the earmuffs. The fabric is thin enough to breath through but if breathing deeply, the material can block your nose.
