Good enough for bench press, incline, not for decline. **Q: When the bench is in the flat position, how high from the floor is the back of the bench? (the distance from the floor to the support on the back)** A: From the floor to the top of the pad is 18". From the floor to the top of the structural support for the pad is 15 1/4". The bench is incredibly sturdy and makes me feel safe when lifting heavy. I have read other reviews that had me curious about its construction. I learned that the people who had bad experience were not able to follow instructions on assembling the bench and didn't double check the bolts. I did not look for this bench to decline but to offer a solid platform for flat and incline exercise positioning.
