Review: Very pleased! - Let me start by saying that I'm a 70 year old woman and also fairly new to detecting (4-5 years). I've enjoyed puttering around with my first two detectors but they were pretty basic and good for beginners and youngsters. I've wanted to upgrade to a more sophisticated unit so I could have a better idea of what I was finding but most of them were so out of my price range I was afraid I was out of luck! When I found the Ricomax GC-1028 it seemed to be just what I was looking for, and in my price range! Hooray! Ordered it immediately! The packaging was sturdy and all parts and pieces were individually secured in pullout cardboard stabilizers. Assembly directions were clear and well illustrated as well as the operating directions. Each function of the unit was described in detail and also illustrated, and the testing and "how to use" sections very well covered. It's lightweight and comfortable to hold, which for me is a plus since I have physical issues that don't let me get too "frisky" when I'm out looking for treasure! In testing it, the unit detected a silver ring, a gold pendant, indicated a penny and a nickle accurately, and found a buried nail 3 inches down. The only issue I had is the batteries wore down terribly fast! Now, to be fair, even though they were brand new and the same brand, they were not the best quality so that will have to be tested at a later date. Overall, I am quite pleased with my newest toy and look forward to many hours scouring the parks and places that just might make me rich! Or, if not rich, at least get me out of the house and on my feet! (Probably not something a serious prospector would want but several steps above a beginner's unit and definitely just right for the casual hunter.)
Review: An excellent choice for entry-level metal detecting. - My Bounty Hunter Tracker IV metal detector recently ran into some issues, so I decided to see if I could find a reasonably-priced replacement as this time of year is the best time for metal detecting. This RICOMAX metal detector was the best-priced one I could find that actually included a working LCD screen. I really like that this metal detector utilizes an LCD panel that actually gives you an estimate about what is it is detecting before you take the time and effort to dig into the ground. The LCD panel is also useful in many other ways, as it gives you a depth estimate and even tells you how your battery life is looking. I especially love that feature as there’s nothing worse than wanting to use a device only to find it is dead. Setting the detector up was very easy. You really just have to connect a small handful of parts, insert 2 9V batteries, and you’re good to go. The package even contains a small shovel for digging up your loot. A nice touch. The Bounty Hunter metal detector has an analog discrimination gauge which in all honesty is just a pain to use. I love the discrimination feature that this detector features and have found it to be pretty accurate. It also emits different tones depending on what it detects. I tested out the detector with a few different types of metal, including a gold wedding ring, and was impressed to find that the detector was able to point that out to me. I now know that I have a powerful tool to use if myself or a loved one ever loses a valuable piece of jewelry.

## Features

- TRUE DISCRIMINATION MODE - This metal detector can detect metals including iron, aluminum, gold, bronze, silver and their articles in all-metal mode. Just press the button, you can simply set the target range Up to 7.1’’ inches deep or eliminate the metal you don’t want. Then, you can accurately find the certain metal you want. The crossed frame is for items eliminated and two 9V alkaline batteries are required
- HIGHER SENSITIVE & WATERPROOF SEARCH COIL - The bigger the search coil is, the higher the sensitivity. The increased size of the search coil to 10 inches makes metal detecting MORE EFFICIENT. And the WATERPROOF stem and coil enable you to use our metal explorer underwater, especially suitable for outdoor activities, on the beach or in the stream. But it is should be noted that the control box is not waterproof
- MORE INTUITIVE LCD CONTROL BOX - A control box with LCD will simplify your metal detecting a lot. The detection mode, sensitivity level, battery condition, and volume level can be known at a glance. An arrow displayed below the target icon will clearly tell you detecting a object. The depth of the target is also displayed. Compared to the knob and dial, button and LCD are obviously more accurate and convenient
- P/P FUNCTION & DISTINCTIVE AUDIO PROMPT - There are distinctive audio tones in our metal detector for different types of metal. So after a period of time use, you can tell what type of metal you've detected just by audio tones. And the P/P function enables you to pinpoint a target accurately. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for kids!
*by J***R on September 22, 2019*

We bought this metal detector for my son's 12th birthday at the beach. He was very surprised and excited! He loves every feature of the sensor showing what type of metal it is sensing. The water proof base is nice also so it can be used in small creeks, rivers and ocean shores. The shovel that came with it was very nice also! The adjustable stem is great so kids and adults alike can use. It was very easy to assemble and packaged very well! We have only used it a few times so far but it really is a nice metal detector!
