## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it possible to use an ethernet extender with this?**
A: I did not use an extender but it works well to just convert one cable length into two ethernet ports. It will only work with cat5 100mb max.

**Q: Do these put 2 pairs to one output and 2 to the other or is there some electronics involved? If so, are they 10/100 or gigabit?**
A: There is no electronics involved. The pair of splitters are designed to split the 8 way cable to two separate send and receive pairs, each dedicated to one connection, This allows a single cable to carry 2 distinct Ethernet connections which are presented at the inputs to the two splitters. Because of this each distinct Ethernet connection can only work at 10/100.

**Q: Hi will these work with power-line adapters?**
A: No they won't, you require a network switch.

**Q: Will these work for two data LAN signals or just voice?**
A: I've only ever used them for data, but they work well even with video on them. A good & much cheaper than a new cat5 run.

Great way to get two connections from one Ethernet port

Theres a reason why these come in pairs. One at the router|hub switch and the other one at the Ethernet port. Hence, one physical line can take two signals. A mapping of 2:2. A lot of people on here give these kind of kit a bad review due to their lack of understanding of LAN networking. Most assume they can split a single signal from say a router or switch into two which just will not work. Some one one here gave a very detailed and excellent explaination so have a read as I'd just be repeating ...

Does not take the place of a switch

*by J***G on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 February 2013*

Bought two of these hoping to use an existing single ethernet cable to feed two digital TV boxes from two ethernet outlets on a BT homehub ( the single cable worked fine feeding one box) this did not work! although it was suggested that it would. I subsequently purchased a simple ethernet switch (see other review) which when placed at the TV end of the existing cable fed the two digital boxes with no problem. The ethernet switch at £7.00 (from Amazon) turned out cheaper than the two 'economiser' units and 4 patch cables. Do not know why the 'economiser' system would not work?

    Get the facts right first...

I really feel for genuine sellers who supply very reasonably priced items, well described and in this case well made ( a nice solid construction with an almost rubberised feel) only to get blasted by reviewers who have so got the wrong end of the stick that it isn't even a stick! Many reviewers have gone to great length to describe exactly how these items work and I would advise any potential buyer to take some time to study these carefully.Simply put... these enable you to utilise the spare capacity available in any CAT5/6 cable to 'fit' 2 circuits down one cable. They aren't splitters like phone socket doublers. You need 2 network sources such as router outputs at one end of an existing CAT5/6 cable and you can operate two separate devices at the other end.Another way to think of it... you have one single CAT5/6 cable running through your house with a router at one end and a PC at the other and you need to add an extra device next to the PC but can't easily add another CAT5/6 cable. So you put one of these devices at the PC end and one at the router end. This gives you 2 outlets at both ends. The way they work as a pair has utilised the spare capacity in your existing CAT5 cable. Now connect 2 router ports at one end and you are free to connect both the PC and new item at the other. Note, depending how you have everything wired, you may need to employ a female to female back to back inline adaptor at one or both ends just to connect them up.I hope this helps :)
