The 4th generation mount features 3 points of contact with the receiver. Includes all mounting hardware and instruction. The OG steel mount is obviously better for strength, but if weight, and cost is of concern this is an excellent and reliable option. This mount is no joke, it is strong and I've had the aluminum mounts in low end field service on other platforms for years with little to no issues loosing zero. The authentic Springfield mount whether aluminum or steel is the only way to go on these platforms. I've had customers bring me knockoff brands that "looked" ok in the box but were absolutely junk. For the general populous, proper gunsmithing tools and basic gunsmithing knowledge is highly recommended. Do not butcher removal and installation of the roll pin for the dove tail. Not all dovetails fit the same, some can be very tight and require careful fitment of the dovetail adapter to fit properly. Make sure you have service tools with you in the field to double check the mounting for the first 10 to 20 shots. Blue locktite (Dont use red!!) goes a long way on all threaded points. As with any complex adaptive mounting solutions for glass, always double check the mount securement and zero before setting off for a field adventure. Larger glass on these mounts exemplify this. (Weight + recoil = shock movement over time) IMO, If your considering heavy duty field service, you may want to the higher strength the steel mount. Again, Larger glass on these mounts exemplify this. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I looked among a good number of sight mounts *by P***. on 20 September 2014* I had my m1a scout squad in a troy mcs chassis with my Nikon m308 scope. But it made it to heavy for lugging around while deer hunting. So I decided to go with the significantly lighter original stock. I looked among a good number of sight mounts. I finally settled on the Springfield Armories gen 4 scope mount. It was designed by the makers of the rifle so no brainer there.Easily installed ( by my gunsmith , but hey, I watched) It was made from milled aluminum. Very sturdy but a little lighter and a lot cheaper than steel.I might have pony upped the double cost for steel if I was a competition shooter or I had a national match m1a. Plus it was one of the few mounts that allowed you to cowitness your excellent existing iron sights with optics. Many of the other sight mounts did not allow to use your existing iron sights. Which was huge for me. The only negative for me was the 2 huge screws on the side. I am very happy with my 1 moa m1a scout squad rifle.
