While these kind of spectroscopes typically get used in the Gems & Jewelry industry, I just wanted to use it for the fun of it. I wish the Alignment of the scale had been a little better. It can be adjusted with the provided screws; but came in misaligned when shipped. That's just a minor lament. As a college kid, after being used to the Table Spectrometer, it felt good to see the miniaturized spectroscope being manufactured in India. I disassembled it to see the 5-prism assembly as well. I'm not sure these days if the ground glass and flint glass prisms are separated by Canada Balsam or some other epoxy; but this gadget can surely be calibrated and is a joy to play with, if only to validate the wavelengths from known crystals in the visible spectrum. As some other reviewer mentioned, a more detailed manual accompanying this spectroscope would've been nice-to-have. Review: I included a picture so you can see the size of the instrument compared to my hand. It corresponds to the middle spectrascope shown in Liddicoats Gem Book. The instrument is hefty, sturdy and well made. It is made in India and comes in a padded wooden box. They ship DHL with a signature required.
