## Description

API Melafix Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy, 1.87 Litre Bottle : desertcart.co.uk: Pet Supplies

Review: From lifeless to spring chicken - read my review and view images - Our fish was showing signs of septicaemia with blood spots, scales peeling away, very lethargic, not eating and fins that looked damaged beyond repair, so after a full tank change with 24 hour settled water, all plants removed to prevent further damage from brushing past, I followed a set routine of daily treatment using this treatment, within 2 days she became more active, and obvious signs of repair were visible, blood spots were disappearing and her fins were slowly starting to move more freely. It’s been 10 days and apart from the damaged scales on her side that are still healing, she’s back to herself, swimming, begging for food every time she sees anyone, safe to say my son is super happy that he’s not got to say goodbye to pepper just yet. Can’t recommend this product enough, well worth the money, the size was plenty for what I needed, but I’ll just continue to use it bi daily for the next few weeks to ensure that it is fully treated and doesn’t come back. And because she’s eating again equivalent to a St Bernard ( if we let her ) there’s less debris in the tank so the tank has stayed clearer. Also I’ve just noted that pre treatment her back was arched and looked so poorly, today she’s back straight, able to buoyant herself easily. I have attached pictures from day 1 to day 10 to show the difference. Absolutely superb result.
Review: Definitely helped my poorly fish . - Bought this in hopes it would help my young Koi that just hasn’t been well since it was gifted to me 3 months ago . I had no idea what was wrong & we have no aquatic vet close by so after googling symptoms in great detail & doing some research it kept coming back as bacterial infection. I’ve had my other fish 20+ years & never had to use any chemicals in my pond or treat any of my fish .. Decided to give melafix a go & im really glad I did . I isolated him in a tank & im currently on day 6 of the treatment . He’d been bottom sitting in my pond for weeks , he’d never come up for food at feeding time & he spent 24 hours a day hiding behind my pond plants . As you can see in the video I took yesterday he’s now swimming around perfectly normal & happy , Ive been using koi flakes to feed him whilst he’s in the tank (usually use MediKoi) & it’s the first time I’ve seen him eat since he fell ill . The melafix also cleared up a red bloodshot patch he’d got underneath his body within the first dose of treatment . He’s not stopped swimming around & playing with the bubbles from the air stones 😂 I’ll be gutted when I have to put him back in the pond . I’d definitely recommend this stuff . I thought I was gonna lose my fish he was so lethargic & unwell but it took just 3 days of this stuff & I saw positive signs . Just to add , it did make the water go incredibly cloudy and my koi did start rubbing a bit against the airstones which can be a side effect to using melafix . I did a 25% water change and added 2 tablespoons spoons of pond salt , this helped with any irritation / stress .

## Questions & Answers

**Q: This site list melafix from two different venders, mars and pond care. big difference in priceing. are they the same?**
A: I've used several different brand types of melafix and found that they work just the same.

**Q: Is it safe to use post-expiration? In other words does it turn toxic to fish or simply starts to lose the effectiveness?**
A: I would think if this is not very much over date, like 6months or so, it would be fine. If it is still sealed, it will be like new or almost. If it is older, it probably, hate to say as this, but I would think it will be okay to use, and just be weaker or maybe not. If you are in doubt, I would buy a new one to be certain. In the past, they never put dates on anything, and now a days they do and the things were used and were okay. Best answers I can give you. Good luck with your issues.

**Q: I guess my butterfly goldfish has fin rot. How should I treat it? It is in a pond with other healthy fish.**
A: If the other fish are healthy. Then you should remove it in to a isolation tank. Be sure to use the pond water when you fill it. There are instructional videos on YouTube that will show you how.

**Q: How is this different from regular strength? They both have 5% concentration in a 64 oz bottle.**
A: My advice is to please ask a professional breeder for direction. Off the self purchases is "gambling" to me!
Best wishes to you and the Fish :)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Made my fish healthier and happier.
*by O***C on 13 July 2021*

I read couple of reviews from people who said that this product killed their fish. I am not going to deny the fact that I was a bit reluctant to buy it because of that. However, I also read about articles about the ingredients of this product and that it helps the fish. My fish have been suffering from fin rot and bacterial infections as I was stupid enough to put new bought guppies into the maintank without treating or quarantining the fish first. As a consequent to my actions, fishes in my whole tank suffered because of it and I lost some of them due to these conditions. Now, this was several months ago which was treated with medication. I noticed my remaining fish to be hanging around the bottom or on top, which alarmed me, only to find one of my platy balooning up and dying, again due to an internal parasite/bacteria. I found this product and still wanted to go ahead and buy it despite the few negative reviews that claimed to have killed their fish. Now, my guess is that those fishes may have suffered great deal already and were going to die anyway or people who claim their fishes died did not follow the instructions properly - it may have been caused by something else as well I do not know. I am using this product on both aquarium and pond fish. Please ensure you are deluting the right amount of this product into the water! Get your calculator out and calculate for the actual amount you need to use for the size of your tank. I have some syringes which i use to measure and release into the water. I don't know if it makes any difference but I am releasing the product slowly to let it spread around slowly. I am only using it once after water changes, and my god, my fishes have been more active than they have ever been. They are happy, they are swimming and they are all eating.. none of them are hiding anymore. Same goes for my pond fish! I did not bave any probpems and I am very impressed overall. I will be contiuing to use it after every water change as it seems to be keeping my fish happy.
