I have tried numerous dog foods to find something he would eat and not just nibble all day. He would do this weird - poking his nose in the bowl and move it around then he would leave it alone. Basically he has a strong instinct to forage and sniff things out. I was stunned when I put his dry kibble in this and buried it pretty good and evenly - and he really worked the mat over sniffing out his food and actually eating it! Love this! It has thicker material than some others, so it doesn't just rip apart with chewing and tugging by the dog. The base is plastic and I was worried about the dog chewing that, but it has not been an issue since the fabric is pretty thick and wraps around most of the plastic. We have a small dog and I like that the treats can be hidden well in this mat, taking the dog some time to find. I have not had to clean it yet, so I can't comment on that.
