Mastisol is a liquid medical adhesive used to ensure the integrity of dressing, tapes, and certain devices over an extended period of time.

Review: A must for port dressing! - Works super well for my port dressing. My previous infusion company carried it, but my current one doesn’t. Without it, my dressing sweats off SO easily (especially in summer). Cavilon actually makes it stick less, so I had to buy these myself for my weekly dressing change. I’ve only had one tube break open when “popping” it open, and I’ve ordered sets of these probably 6 times by now. I recommend wearing gloves when applying it (I sometimes have to use it to reinforce my dressing with additional dressings) because it’s really sticky and hard to wash off. They’re sterile until open, which is key to being able to use it during a sterile port access. I think the smell is pleasant, it smells like pine trees to me.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can normal super glue be used to treat cuts**
A: Normal super glue can be used when there is no blood present - just gluing skin to skin.  The problem comes in when there is blood present.  Blood pH is ~7.4 7.35-7.45, and deactivates normal superglues, which is why medical superglues are designed to not be affected by that pH, and can be used on bloody and bleeding wounds.

**Q: Can 1 - Vial be opened - up then closed to be used again ? Or is each vial a 1 - shot - deal ?**
A: Each vial is one time use

**Q: does it have an expiration date**
A: I have not seen an expiration date.

**Q: Can this be used blowouts in gauged ears**
A: it will seal lacerations, but it should not be used in the case of infection without properly treating the tissue first

After a recent trip to the ER after nearly cutting the tip of my finger off, I bought a pack of these for the house. The ER used this to glue my incision together and it held for two weeks before peeling off, with my wound healed underneath. I just had to get some for home.
