Product Description Scotch Rubber Splicing Tape 23 is a 30-mil, conformable, self-fusing Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) based, high-voltage splicing tape. It is a non-vulcanizing and shelf-stable tape with excellent electrical properties that can be used as an insulation for low voltage applications and for splices up to 69,000 volts (69kV). The tape is split, crack, slip and flag resistant when exposed to various environments (indoor or outdoor). It is compatible with synthetic cable insulations. From the Manufacturer Scotch® Rubber Splicing Tape 23 is a high-insulating tape for splicing and terminating medium voltage cables. This self-amalgamating tape creates a secure, tight bond by fusing to itself. Highly conformable Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) backing will wrap tightly over most profiles, even irregular and awkward shapes. Tape can be stretched up to 100 percent to give void-free, moisture-resistant insulation. Physical and electrical properties are unaffected by the degree of stretch.This 30-mil thick, black electrician’s tape delivers primary electrical insulation for cable jointing and terminating up to 69kV with up to a 194°F (90°C) continuous operating temperature and 266°F (130°C) emergency overload temperature. But if you haven't, this is a tape completely made of elastic rubber that does not return to its original state and uses no glue, it actually when stretched the surface of the material becomes quite sticky. The uses are much more wide than just electrical, but you have to be aware of the limits on temperature. This is my #1 favorite tape.

Once the splice or joint is sealed with this tape, it will never come off or leak.. Needs to be cut off. Used this tape while working on equipment inside sonar domes on Navy submarines subjected to deep diving water pressures. It just does not fail.

**Q: Can this be used to reinforce a low-moderate (~50psi) pressure flexible water line, maybe under silicon tape?**
A: NO that is not what this tape is designed to do.  Think of this as more higher voltage electrical tape for 30a plus.  
It is also good for places that vibration could cut into normal electrical tape (i.e. rubbing in a utility box)
It is also commonly used to wrap several wires together and zip tie the group 
As far as water leak in a pipe it might hold long enough to get it repaired but was not made for this purpose.

If you have used this before you know what to expect. But if you haven't, this is a tape completely made of elastic rubber that does not return to its original state and uses no glue, it actually when stretched the surface of the material becomes quite sticky. The uses are much more wide than just electrical, but you have to be aware of the limits on temperature. This is my #1 favorite tape.

This is the best electrical tape you will find. It self seals by stretching, It is waterproof, easy to apply, and will not come undone. Once the splice or joint is sealed with this tape, it will never come off or leak.. Needs to be cut off. Used this tape while working on equipment inside sonar domes on Navy submarines subjected to deep diving water pressures. It just does not fail.
