You also need a good 2-meter antenna. I would recommend building a j-pole. It's easy to build out of 1/2 inch copper pipe, it's not large, and needs no ground plane. It even works well indoors, just keep it at least 5 or 10 feet from other electronics. Also be sure to put a choke near the feed point by making a loop consisting of 4 or 5 turns of coax.
