How?** A: IGR=Insect Growth Regulator. This will be consumed by adults and carried back to the nest where all the nymphs/babies are. The babies and others will eat the frass (aka, roach poop) and ingest the IGR, which stops them from growing and becoming sexually mature. This IGR works at an extremely low concentration (parts per billion I believe?) so what I'd do is use the IGR for several days to ensure the IGR has been consumed and the IGR has had a chance to spread throughout the entire colony, then use another fast acting poison to knock out the adults such as Maxforce or Boric Acid if that is what you prefer. Just pick your poison and follow the instructions on the box. Or you could use something like Abamectin which is simply a mold/fungal growth. This is a slower acting roach poison that the adults eat and it takes a few days to kill the adults, but once they die the other roaches in the colony eat their dead, and spread the poison around the nest even more. When it comes to taking out roach colonies, you need an IGR or your going to probably end up killing most of the adults, and then the problem will return once the nymphs grow to the point that they start leaving the next in search of food. And you need a slower acting poison so the adults can return to the colony and spread the poison. If you don't get the poison back to the nest you're just performing a quick and temporary fix. You never know what is infesting your neighbors homes either. I started using Bifen to treat my entire yard for flying/biting bugs and it lasts for about 3 months. Most roaches don't really fly, so they wouldn't survive the trip from a neighbors house to mine so besides killing mosquitoes and gnats and such, it prevents neighboring bugs from reaching my house. It also significantly reduces the amount of bugs that get into the house from lights around the entrances. Some are just regurgitating the label. IGR is a phenolic which acts as a hormone inhibitor preventing larval insects from developing the tooth needed to break out of the pupa. Any insect that goes through a pupa stage s/b controllable with IGR. It's the only real solution to fleas but it takes one life cycle to become operative since larva not exposed will still hatch out of the pupa stage. Most of all do not accept flea pet meds from your vet. This particular product appears to be mislabeled for bedbugs. Bedbugs do not go through a pupa stage. They are in the spider family. It could be that this is an IGR combined with an adulticide which also kills bedbugs. Personally I would stay from adulticides since they are mostly all toxic.
