It took me a bit of trial and error before I was able to successfully clamp the grommets closed. Cut a small slit, careful it's not too big! Push back grommet through. Place top piece over bottom piece. Use clamped and hope for the best! I expected one side of the clamper to have a groove for the grommet to sit in to help guide the process. Not so. I dropped a lot of pieces, miss aligned a few, but in the end this gave me what I needed. ### ⭐⭐ Disappointed so returned and ordered another product *by E***T on Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2020* As some have pointed out this is only a tool to set the grommet; it does not cut the hole. I failed to understand that in the product details. Also, the grommets are only 1-piece and not 2-piece grommets. This means you put the grommet thru the hole and with this tool bend over the walls of the grommet to crimp it in place. It leaves a ragged shoulder on the inside of the fabric. Additionally the tool works ok, but depending on how carefully you squeeze the handles and crimp it, the grommet may turn out more or less ragged and well positioned. All in all, not what I had in mind so I returned for a different item that comes with a hole cutter and 2-piece grommets, so there will be a clean shoulder on the inside of the item thru which the grommet has been placed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works well on paper *by S***H on Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2019* I ordered these to attach card panels to card bases. You only use 1 grommet placed on the flatter side & then push together with protruding side to spread out grommet. The grommets will not cut through material, you have to place it into an existing hole - so I don’t know how well this would work with heavier material. Pliers do not have a locking mechanism to keep handles closed.
