The connecting wires are 28 or 30 gauge, I think. I used 24 gauge to connect them to the distribution board. The lights are 3 volts and seem to work well with the which can handle single or double 28 lamps. As in my review of the double lamp post, the internal connections to the lights can handle some strain, but you must be careful to not put too much tension on the internal wires as they are not repairable from my experience.
