No latency, and you can hook up any instrument with a 1/4" out to the PC. Remember, this is not recording software (but you can use it with most recording software, including the free ones such as Audacity). Just look for the "Recording Device" and "Playback Device" and set them both to the Toneport if you're using headphones to the headset jack on the Toneport itself (which I recommend).I've used an electric guitar, a condenser mic, an acoustic/electric guitar, and a keyboard through this. My experience is that the included tones are very good, if not excellent, but it's very difficult to make a crappy instrument sound good with them. with a lot of tweaking I got some sounds I liked, but you're not going to get anything ground-breaking, and the effects are obviously digital.So, I mostly use this for recording clean, and it works quite well for that. I'd definitely have gone for a cheaper "recording interface" if I had the option though. If you've got some decent instruments, the tones can serve you very well (just check out youtube)--but you're not gonna make your $150 starter guitar sound high-end. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing unit *by C***E on Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2007* This little thing is just amazing. Every capability Line6 described is true and you can spend hours experimenting with new quality tones. Setup was very easy, even though my computer met the minimun requirements. I don't know what latency is because this unit has solve that problem, I really believe that Tone direct monitoring is working great. I've been using it on a daily basis and every day I can create and recreate a lot of tones. If you want to save your money and still sound great, you should give it a try.PD: I'm thinking seriously to sell my amp and get a pro Line6 hardware, they met my expectations. ### ⭐⭐ Don't Buy if you have an AMD turionx2 QuadCore *by S***N on Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2010* Not until after three two nights of futzing with the upgrades and terrible on-line support (users are all over the place but actual line6 people only show up sporadically) I never got this working properly.Static pops, low signal input/output.Then, I stumble on a thread FROM A YEAR AGO that suggests HP Pavillion dv7 laptops with the AMD TurionX2 Quad-core processors may experience trouble. There is actually a video and long sheet about getting this GX to work.The short of it, is turning off your sound card and making the GX your sound card. Plus, and here's the funny part, they suggest turning off indexing in your system.Now, NO other company has any special caveats about using their interfaces, especially a usb... plug it in/install driver and go!Not with line6.
