In my environment, I need to run it on batteries to keep the noise from other stuff (like USB power supplies) away. The tuning is a little notchy, like all modern sdr designs, but good and stable once you get tuned in At first I thought the tone with ear buds was a little bass heavy but either I got used to it or it was something else making me think this. It's as good as my other radios that I use for AM DX. The volume control is nice and smooth but not to loose. Additionally it was a great price on sale. It would be nice if it had digital tuning, but not a big deal
