As for the foot pads, they're big enough so you can adjust your footing how you like but basically flat-ground stepping, so should be as natural as walking. The larger machine has heavier flywheel so momentum would be a bit better but this size with 16 1/2 inch stride is better than the majority of machine offerings. Would recommend. It is pretty light, so it can wiggle a bit during a session, however. It is COMPLETELY silent and looks very nice. My main complaint, however, is that the handle bars are a bit low, forcing you to take a slightly hunched posture while using it. I have neck and back issues and try to concentrate on straightening my back as much as possible during workouts, and this eliptical does not allow for that. For reference, I am about 5’7”. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this item.
