She would constantly meow to be let out and in again so someone recommended I get a pet door for the sliding glass door. I did not know that such an item existed. I did some research and this product did all that I needed at the best price. I was apprehensive whether it would fit. I measured the door frame several times and then placed the order. It fit just fine. Since I am a tenant I did not permanently install this insert for the sliding glass door frame. I also do not live on the first floor so burglars were not my primary concern. The insert has a spring mechanism at one end so you can easily insert or remove at will. The only problem I had is not even related to the product. The installer of the glass door did not level the frame and the entire mechanism leaves a gap. There are multiple videos on how to easily correct this but my sliding glass door is a lemon. There is no adjustment screw so I put in a maintenance request with property management. The maintenance person was just as confused as I was because there appears to be no adjustment screw. Also, my sliding glass door is not full width. So with the insert the space for entering and exiting is reduced significantly. In order to bring items in and out of the balcony I have to remove the pet door insert to allow enough room to access the balcony. Again, these are NOT issues with the product. The product is exactly what I needed and performs as promised. The glass panel is especially thick and durable. The issue I have is with the existing door frame and inferior workmanship that detracts from this great product. It was worth the money and even though my set up is flawed it works fine. Only took my cat about 24 hours to figure out the door. The dog took much longer and he is still timid. Magnetic closure on the pet door flap is secure and works well. I would strongly recommend. Great price and works well ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Life-changing dog door… with a couple long-term quirks *by A***R on December 28, 2025* I’ve owned this PetSafe sliding glass dog door since July 2019 and it’s now December 2025, so this is a real long-term review, not a “just installed it yesterday” take. First, the important part: this thing is amazing. I genuinely can’t imagine my dogs’ lives — or my life — without it. It works every single day, my dogs learned it fast, and it’s been absolutely worth the money. If you’re on the fence about getting a sliding glass dog door, just do it. That said, after years of real use, a couple annoying (but manageable) issues showed up. 1️⃣ Flap door hardware is weak The rubber flap is held on by very small screws with tiny heads. Once your dog gets confident and starts sprinting through the door like it’s a NASCAR pit exit, those screws can loosen and the flap can pop off. Fix: I added larger metal washers, which solved the problem — but that leads to issue #2. The plastic strip the screws go into gets brittle over time. Because of that weak mounting setup, the rubber flap doesn’t last as long as it should. 👉 Suggestion to PetSafe: This would be way better with a metal strip on the front and back to clamp the flap securely instead of relying on aging plastic. 2️⃣ Insulation is… not great This is basically a single-pane glass setup, so temperature control takes a hit: • Cold comes through the glass • Air sneaks in around the edges • More heat/cold leaks from the sliding door side You’ll notice it on your HVAC bill if you live somewhere with real winters or hot summers. Fix: Before installing, I added self-adhesive foam/weather-seal strips from the hardware store around the sliding door. That helped a lot. Honestly, the reason I’m writing this review again is because I’m considering buying a second one and installing it behind the first to create a double-glass setup for better insulation. Final verdict ✅ Rock-solid daily use for 6+ years ✅ Dogs love it ✅ Massive quality-of-life upgrade ⚠️ Flap mounting design could be better ⚠️ Needs extra sealing for insulation Even with the flaws, I’d still buy it again — and probably will.
