You need to make sure the bare wire is less than a 1/4 inch exposed to avoid this problem. I was connecting 10 pairs of speakers and took me a little while to figure out that one end of the wire went to the end of the tube, while the other only went as far as the initial opening short of the metal contact point. When I clamped down both wires there was no connection. Its an easy fix once you know, but if the initial connection was in an awkward place that you closed, going back to it is a pain. There is a tiny pin that sticks up in the middle of the connect that's supposed to act as a mid-way wall but its useless. I took off a star, because several of them split while I was crimping them, it took a bit of work to figure out how much pressure they like, which really slowed down my project at first.
