Where I live, the beach is very rocky and then finally sandy, so these shoes have been exposed to some rough ground including oyster beds and have held up great. The only thing I would change is to shorten the tie-cord. It’s ridiculously long and there’s not much to do about it. I wear a women’s 9.5-10 and bought 9.5 - good fit but almost a tiny bit big - but not big enough to exchange and they don’t bother my feet. They are perfect for my water aerobics classes. They stay on well and have a good, thick sole. I wear a size 8.5 medium and I ordered an 8.5 and it fit perfectly. The toe of the shoe is not narrow so I think they would work for someone with wide feet as well.
