Review: Perfect nesting utensil set for any activity.! I love it! - Over the past few months I have purchased all types of nesting and non-nesting utensil sets. I started with a folding utensil set I bought at Wal-Mart about a year ago. One day as I was using the folding set when the non-locking fork accidentally closed down on my fingers and hurt me pretty bad and so that was the end of using that type. Next I tried MSR's heavy duty polycarbonate utensils which didn't nest together whatsoever and were only held together with a light duty carabiner clip. Well, I became quite frustrated since the MSR utensils weren't very strong whatsoever. They seemed like flimsy plastic and for the price they charged I thought this would be the set to end all my searching, not at all, the fork would bend easily and the spoon was way to large and dribbled, they were totally useless. Soon afterwards I then tried the Sea to Summit aluminum aircraft grade utensil set. The Sea to Summit set was a great set of utensils but once again they didn't nest and were only held together using a carabiner clip, they made all kinds of noise in the bush and were easy to loose. I can go on and on about all the different models I tried and at one point I didn't think anyone made a good set of pack-able utensils until I came across this German Military Utensil set. I have got to say, "this German nesting set is the best I have found in over two years of searching." They nest tightly together, are extremely strong and are as good if not better than regular table grade utensils you may use at home. I was able to see the moment I opened the package this was no light weight set. The spoon is large with no dribbles, The fork has very long and sharp tines, The knife is equally strong with grooved serrations. There is no way your going to even accidentally bend these. They are truly stainless steel which was apparent right of way. Like I said, these nest together very tightly and feel really solid. I wrap my set up in a microfiber towel and stow them in my MSR nesting pots and pans. I also like to carry them in an old folding pocket knife sheath that I bought in a discount thrift shop. Sometimes I just toss them in my back pocket, especially if I know I'm going out for dinner. I don't like using restaurant utensils for various reasons. I am going to purchase another pair of these German utensils just to stow in the glove box of my JEEP so I can keep the first pair stowed away in my bug-out kit. Anyway, I know this is the best utensil set any outdoors-man will ever own. I am 54 years old, ex military and have been an avid outdoors-man for well over 30 years so, I think I am pretty qualified to know what's better. Lots of guys who buy gear are just out for the flash and bling but that never works and it's always to costly to think you own the best when in fact, you really don't. Some people really crack me up thinking they have the best gear, the funny ones are the ones who complain they're gear is dented, smudged or scratched.. LOL, I guess they buy gear so they can look at it and shine it up everyday. If your truly and Outdoors-man, like myself then you'll know right of way that this is the best utensil set you'll ever own. You'll never need to replace these, they'll last forever. My search for a great pair of utensils has ended with these. I am very happy with this German utensils set and highly recommend these to anyone serious about good gear. I hope my review has helped. If I can answer any of your questions please feel free to ask. Thank you for reading and 'Push Onward" .
Review: Sturdy Cutlery Set - Read Updated info at end. Reducing to two stars, down from five stars! Original orders: Nice and heavy, sturdy cutlery for your camping bag or emergency bag. Years ago, I had the old aluminum camping cutlery set. They were flimsy. Somehow, over the years, they have been misplaced or thrown away or whatever... so when it came time to replace my camping cutlery - I knew I wanted a sturdier set. These are very well made! They nest together tightly, and store in a small space. Their weight difference is well worth it, to get a more serviceable set. The knife will actually CUT Food! (always a bonus) and the fork does not try to bend with reasonable pressure. It has the added bonus of having a beer bottle opener on the holder, too! What's not to like? ------------- Two-plus years later: I am still very happy with these. I have already ordered several sets, and am preparing to get another one! I failed to mention that the original sets I ordered were, indeed, used and German. They are military surplus. Well worth ordering! ----------- Update-Update: The items being shipped currently are NOT what was originally supplied by this vendor! The current stock is cheesy, light weight crapola! These weigh half what my 1960's German set weigh. I am contacting vendor for a refund! See attached photos of the original German set (top or right) vs the junk being sent out now... Updatex3: Vendor sent me a return label with no questions asked. And refund was issued immediately upon the shipping label being used. Well done! Now to find a set of the old German cutlery surplus! 4th Update, 2019-12-21: They once again are sending out heavy, solid utensils! They’re new - not military surplus - but they’re again study and very similar to the original! (Back up to 5 stars!)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: length during storage?**
A: It's about 7-1/2" (the length of the spoon) when assembled.

**Q: Are these dishwasher safe? I put some in the dishwasher maybe a dozen times and now the spoon is pitted/spotted and discolored/tarnished.**
A: Remember that that you are using "military surplus" and were in "used" state when you purchased them.
Dishwasher detergents Cause stainless flatware to rust.
There are several things that can cause stainless steel flatware to rust. Harsh dishwasher detergents can over time, cause staining.
Moisture and acid can erode the finish.
How can you prevent this from happening and keep flatware looking nice?
You should hand wash flatware after using and dry it immediately. Though it sounds labour-intensive, it will keep your flatware looking nice.
I how this helps you, I have 3 sets of these myself and the most practical advice I can give you is to thoroughly hand clean them and Keep them DRY.

**Q: Is there anywhere to see the proper technique on using this particular can opener design?**
A: This rascal is definitely 'Old School', you should find an example on Youtube.

**Q: east or west german ?**
A: It is West German. The "Bund" stands for Bundeswehr the West German military. These are steel and heavy. The East German version is aluminum and light and would be marked "NVA" National Volks Army.

### ⭐ Beware the German Fighting Spoon
*by B***L on January 27, 2016*

More on why I'm writing a review for an cheap 'camp utensil' set later. Let me start from the beginning. I was looking for something for my desk/lunchbox. I've been using recycled plastic-ware for years. After a while they start looking a little sketchy and I don't love the idea of throwing them out every couple of days; it makes me feel like a privileged Murican. Granted, I are one, but who wants to feel like it? I came across these here ginuwine German Military Surplus viddle gadgets. Pulled the trigger, so to speak. So, if these are current German Military issue, I congratulate their next ground opponent's tactical advantage. Between lugging these things around, countless man-hours wasted trying to figure out how to eat their chowder, and resulting wide-spread infection brought about by serious flesh wounds, they're sure to come out on the losing end of the war. The first thing I noticed... this set is HEAVY. I mean throw them in your lunchbox and whoever picks it up will think you're headed to the wrong side of the BMI Index heavy. They also appear to be pretty shoddily stamped, but for south of $10, what do you expect? The biggest oddity of design, however, was the size of the spoon. Well, it's in the rough shape of a spoon, at least. It's mostly flat with a spoon-like bend. Check out the picture compared to our tableware. The included spoon-like implement is 2nd from the bottom, next to our serving spoon. So, I don't typically eat chowder for lunch, said 'Meh,' and threw 'em in the bag; off to work. Lunchtime. The fork worked fine. It's a fork. Ah, but I'd forgotten about the yogurt I'd packed. What to do? Let's try the serving spoon. Bad idea! Not only did it make me feel sneaky, as if sampling from the serving bowl while no one's looking (not that I know what that's like,) but it cut me! Yes, injured by the insidious spoon-like device. I might be the first person ever impaled by a German Fighting Spoon. Right on the inside of my cheek. I'm not sure the picture does justice, but I hadn't noticed that the edges on these are SHARP (especially the spoony thingee.) On a positive note, I was able to empty the yogurt container in one scoop. I'm not much of a 'returner' and almost broke out the rotary tool (or maybe an over-sized angle-grinder) and rounded the edges. Figured with my luck I'd spend more in time and material then they were worth... So I'm spending the time writing a review so that you don't make the same mistake I did, or at least know what you're getting. Maybe German fighting spoons are your thing. In fact, I might contact the Commandant of the Marine Corps about these. Tactical spoon training sounds pretty hard core. Wonder if I could qualify for a Purple Heart?
