Very sturdy construction, yes, as other reviewers have noted, it needs a little sanding here and there and the hooks on the back may not work for anything other than flat surfaces, but most people use a variety of ways to mount their houses on different surfaces anyway so it's not a huge issue, I think it is worth the cost because it's built well you can put your own crafty embellishments on it and get years of enjoyment from it.
